TRAFFIC TICKET FAQ

What happens if I just pay my traffic ticket?

Many people don't realize that you can fight a traffic ticket and just pay the fine. When you pay a traffic ticket, you automatically receive a formal conviction of guilt and the associated points on your driver's license. You will most likely have to take driving school to remove the points from your driver's license. You must first be eligible to elect driving school and then will be required to pay for and attend driving school.

Why hire a lawyer?

Hiring an attorney to fight your traffic ticket can save you time and money. The only way to get your traffic ticket dismissed and avoid points on your license is to dispute the charge. Our goal is to get your traffic ticket DISMISSED. If your case is dismissed, you will not have to pay the ticket fine and you will not receive points on your license. If we cannot get your traffic ticket dismissed, we will fight to have the fine reduced and adjudication withheld (no points on your license).

Can I just take driving school?

If you elect to take driving school, adjudication will be withheld. You will receive no points on your license, but you will still receive a formal conviction of guilt. You will have to pay the traffic ticket fine, as well as the driving school fee. You cannot elect driving school if the ticket requires a mandatory court appearance. You may only elect driving school 5 times in a lifetime and only once in a 12-month period. CDL drivers may not elect driving school. An attorney may be able to get the adjudication withheld (no points on your license) without you having to elect driving school, saving you time and money.

Why is it important to avoid points on my driver's license?

Incurring points on your license can lead to license suspension and increased insurance rates. Points stay on your license and can affect insurance rates for up to 3 years.

Your driver's license may be suspended if you incur:

  • 12 points in a 12-month period
  • 18 points in an 18-month period
  • 24 points in a 36-month period

Will I need to show up to court?

We go to court, so that you don't have to! In most cases, a lawyer can appear in court on your behalf.
